Metaphysical Education and Beliefs: Transforming Mistrust in West Africa, Especially Sierra Leone
Metaphysical education, which delves into the fundamental nature of reality, existence, and the interconnectedness of all things, holds significant potential in transforming societal mindsets, particularly in West Africa and Sierra Leone. By fostering a deeper understanding of metaphysical principles, individuals can develop a heightened sense of empathy, self-awareness, and communal responsibility, thereby addressing and mitigating deep-seated mistrust within these societies.
In Sierra Leone, traditional belief systems, such as those of the Mende people, emphasize the interconnectedness between the physical and spiritual realms. The Mende perceive the self as comprising both a physical body and a spiritual essence, with individual well-being intrinsically linked to harmony between these realms (Harding, 2024). This holistic worldview underscores the importance of community and collective well-being, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
The integration of metaphysical education with indigenous wisdom can enhance cultural pride and create bridges between modern and traditional practices.
